Watchmen Makes $25 Million on Opening Day
Posted on March 7, 2009
Watchmen was expected to win this weekend's box office and it will easily do that. The film has already brought in $25 million this weekend with Saturday's and Sunday's box office still left to include in the total.
The $25 million opening was a huge opening but Box Office Mojo notes that it was just the eight-highest opening day for a superhero film.
That ranks as the eighth-highest grossing opening day for a superhero movie and 32nd among all movies. Adjusted for ticket price inflation, other comic book adaptations rate higher opening days, including the first X-Men and Hulk pictures, but Watchmen's first day wasn't far off from the first weekends of previous Alan Moore adaptations V for Vendetta and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Watchmen will carry the weekend which means Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail will finally be knocked off the #1 spot.
