Washington Post Critic Apologizes to Rogen and Apatow Over Virgin Killer Comments
Posted on May 27, 2014
Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday has apologized to Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow for linking their film Neighbors with the murder spree by UCSB student Elliot Rodger.
Here is how it all works. Anne says something thoughtless. I say it is wrong then CNN asks everyone to debate and it becomes TV.

Rodger, who has been dubbed the Virgin Killer, left a very sick, narcissistic video explaining why he killed six people at UCSB. He was furious that girls were not attracted to him and denied him what he was entitled to. He was also livid that girls preferred other guys to him and everyone got to have a fun lifestyle while he lived in loneliness. The video was made while sitting in his black BMW. His entitlement is nauseating. He also left a 141 page manifesto and had plans to kill everyone in a sorority house (luckily, no one answered the door when he knocked) and plans to kill family members.
Hornaday got blasted on twitter by Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow after she linked the killings with all the films made by men that feature schlubby guys getting the girl and revenge fantasies. Rogen and Apatow were offended and denied their film had anything to do with the violent actions of what is clearly a mentally ill person. Hornaday explains her thesis in the video and accompanying article.
She says, "In singling out Neighbors and Judd Apatow, I by no means meant to cast blame on those movies or Judd Apatow's work for this heinous action...But I do think it bears all of us asking what the costs are of having such a narrow range of stories that we always go back to."
