War for the Planet of the Apes Tops Box Office With $56.5 Million Opening

War for the Planet of the Apes was the top film in theaters this weekend. It opened with $56.5 million. This was a weaker opening than Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which had a $72.6 million opening in July 2014. The new film has an A- CinemaScore.
Spider-Man: Homecoming made another $45 million during its second weekend in theaters. This was a significant 61% drop from its opening weekend. It has made $208 million so far. Despicable Me 3 finished third and added $18.9 million during its third weekend in theaters. Baby Driver fell just 32.7% from its previous weekend and made $8.7 million. The comedic thriller has made $73 million to date.
Baby Driver was followed by The Big Sick and Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman continues to resist theater loss. It is still showing in over 2,700 theaters during its seventh weekend. The film dropped just 29% from its previous weekend and made $6.9 million. It has made $380 million so far and will soon reach the $400 million mark.
The Wish Upon horror film opened in 7th place and made $5.5 million. The film follows a teenage girl that discovers a box that brings magical powers at a deadly cost. It has a C CinemaScore.
