The Vow, Safe House Top Big Box Office Weekend
Posted on February 12, 2012
This weekend was a huge box office weekend. Four movies - The Vow, Safe House, Journey 2: Mysterious Island and Star Wars 3D: Phantom Menace - opened over $20 million. Deadline reports that this is the first time this happened since the 2008 December holiday weekend.
The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, won the weekend with a $41.7 million gross, which is huge for a romantic comedy. The Vow was closely followed by Safe House, a spy thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. Safe House made over $39 million, which is very impressive for an R-rated movie. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island also performed strongly with a $27.5 million take. The adventure film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson.
The 3D version of The Phantom Menace made $23 million. It was followed by Chronicle, The Woman in Black and The Grey. You can see the complete box office report here.
