Vera Farmiga Talks Playing Norman Bates' Mother in Bates Motel

Vera Farmiga stars in the new A & E series The Bates Motel which tells the story of how Norman Bates became the man we saw in the classic film Psycho. The creepy poster for the series has the tagline, "A boy's best friend is his mother."
Vera relishes the challenge of the role of playing mama Bates. She explains, "All we know is what we learn through Norman Bates' fractured psyche." Vera says she admires the maternal vigor of the character although she doesn't agree with all her parenting decisions. But she is resilient. The show premiered to excellent ratings. Take a look:
