Tyler Perry Beats Jonas Brothers at the Box Office
Posted on March 1, 2009
Well, this is a bit of a surprise. The Jonas Brothers new 3-D movie was beaten at the box office this weekend by Tyler Perry's Medea Goes to Jail. No, really. Jonas Brothers: the 3-D Concert Experience made $12,700,000, while Medea made $16,500,000 in its second week of release.
On the other hand, the Jonas Brothers made more per theater than Medea, and is in fewer theaters, because it is in 3-D. But studio execs were hoping for repeat performance of the Miley Cyrus 3-D concert movie, which made over $30 million in its opening weekend. That didn't happen for the Jonas Brothers.
Best Picture Oscar Winner Slumdog Millionaire made another $12,150,000, bringing its cumulative take to date to $115,148,000.
