Everything look set for Hawking to have a bright future with a great career, a happy marriage and the freedom to do as he wished. But at the age of 21 he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was given two years to live.

With his wife by his side, Hawking made medical and scientific history as they beat the grim odds Hawking was given by his doctors. Hawking is the most famous scientist on the planet today.
