Trailer for Amityville: The Awakening Starring Bella Thorne and Cameron Monaghan
Posted on August 24, 2014
It's kind of amazing to think that it has been thirty-five years since the release of The Amityville Horror. The horror series got rebooted in 2005 with Ryan Reynolds, but the movie didn't make much of a splash.
Since that reboot there have been eleven more installments, most of which went straight to video. Good news, Amityville fans: the twelfth installment, Amityville: The Awakening is coming your way in January, 2015. This time a single mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) moves into the house because the town has a top-notch neurological center where her son (Cameron Monaghan) can get treatment. The daughter Bell (Bella Thorne) begins to notice some very odd things about the house.
Her comatose brother seems to be covered in now you see them, now you don't ghostly maggots. He is getting better, which is medically impossible. The house shows them things that aren't there and it just gets weirder and grosser after that. Eventually Bell learns about the house's history from her classmates.
So, let's see. This same house keeps causing people to go insane and kill their families, but it's still standing? The realtors never disclose the gruesome murders that occurred in the house and never get sued? Still, putting that aside the cast is good. The director is Franck Khalfoun (P2, the MANIAC), so perhaps he has some nice twists up his sleeve. Still...when the house tells you to get out, you really should just get out. Take a look:
