Toy Story 4 Stomps Chucky at Box Office

There were two movies about toys in theaters this weekend but only one of them was for kids. Toy Story 4 dominated the box office and made $120 million. Child's Play, a horror movie, featuring the demonic toy-like Chucky character made just $14 million.
Toy Story 4 also set a global opening record for an animated film with $238 million according to Deadline. It has an A CinemaScore.
Child's Play made $14 million in 3,007 theaters for a $4,687 per theater average. It was enough probably to keep the Chucky franchise enough. It has a C+ CinemaScore.
There were some Child's Play movie posters featuring tortured Toy Story characters released online ahead of the weekend but it was Toy Story that got the last laugh.

Child's Play was followed by Aladdin which added $13.2 million during its 5th weekend in theaters. It has now made $288 million. Aladdin was followed by Men in Black International, The Secret Life of Pets 2, Rocketman, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Anna, a Luc Besson thriller starring Russian actress and model Sasha Luss, opened in 9th and made $3.6 million. It has a B+ CinemaScore.
