Terrifying First Trailer for The Witch
Posted on August 23, 2015
The first trailer is out for the 17th century horror movie The Witch. The film scared audiences at the Sundance Film Festival where it got rave reviews. Robert Eggers won a Prize for Best Director Prize at the festival for the film.
The trailer opens in the year 1630. A Puritan American family is leaving their New England town for life on a remote farm that backs up to a very scary looking forest. There are rumors of witches in the woods. William and Katherine are husband and wife and they have five children, including a newborn son.
Life on their own is hard enough without any supernatural shenanigans, but when bizarre and ugly things start happening it's clear that the rumors are true. The crops go bad, the baby vanishes and the goat is suddenly giving blood instead of milk. None of these are good signs.
At first, the family relies on its very strong Christian faith, but praying doesn't seem to help as the disastrous events continue. But when the family begins to turn on each other and paranoia reigns things really get terrifying. The film stars Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Anya Taylor-Joy, Harvey Scrimshaw, Lucas Dawson, Ellie Grainger, Bathsheba Garnett and Julian Richings, who is best known to Supernatural fans as Death.
The trailer is very scary. And that goat -- he's a real scene stealer. The film will hit theaters in 2016. Take a look:
