The Top Political Movies of All Time
Posted on November 7, 2006
Time Magazine has created a list of the top seven political movies from the past seven decades. The list includes Mr. Smith Goes to Washinton, Citizen Kane, The Last Hurrah, Advise & Consent, The Candidate, REDS and Bob Roberts.
The Candidate was an excellent film: a young handsome Robert Redford runs for a senate position without the slightest clue as to what will be expected of him. The biting social commentary is excellent, as is the Oscar-winning screenplay. Bob Roberts is another contemporary political satire that is quite funny. Citizen Kane and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington are classics that are just as good today as when they were made, and well-worth another viewing.
Although, to be honest, we're not watching movies tonight. We'll be watching the CNN crew -- Lou Dobbs, Wolf Blitzer, Jeff Greenfield, Paula Zahn, Anderson Cooper and John King -- look incredibly awkward as they try to navigate around their giant, unwieldy (yet very hi-tech and cool-looking) new set, which is full of different levels, huge computer screens, and smart boards, but hardly any chairs. Somebody needs to get Greenfield a map, because he keeps stumbling into Blitzer's camera angle. Not cool, Jeff. Not cool. Lou Dobbs did get a chair though -- and a desk, which has to count for something.
