The Secret Life of Pets Wins Weekend With $103 Million Opening

The Secret Life of Pets had a huge $103 million opening to win the box office this weekend. The film is directed by Chris Renaud and features the voices of Louis C.K, Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate and Ellie Kemper. It has been heavily promoted and has many tie-products. It has an A- CinemaScore.

The Secret Life of Pets was followed by The Legend of Tarzan which had a strong second weekend in theaters. It made $20.6 million to bring its total box office to $81 million. Finding Dory is now the top grossing film of 2016 so far. It added $20 million to bring its total gross to $422 million.

Finding Dory was followed by the comedy Mike and David Need Wedding Dates. The film starring Adam Devine and Zac Efron opened with $16.6 million. It has a B CinemaScore. Mike and David was followed by The Purge: Election Year which added $11.7 million during its second weekend in theaters. Purge had a big 62.9% drop from its opening weekend.

The Purge was followed by Central Intelligence, Independence Day: Resurgence, The BFG and The Shallows. You can view the weekend box office chart here. Next weekend's opening films include Ghostbusters, The Infiltrator, Cafe Society and Equals.
