The Possession Tops Box Office Again, Worst Box Office Weekend in Over Ten Years

The Possession won the box office this weekend and it didn't even need $10 million to do it. The horror film took first place with a box office take of just $9.5 million. The Possession also opened atop the box office during its debut weekend last weekend.
The Possession was followed by Lawless, which made $6 million during its second weekend in theaters.
The Words, starring Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana, opened in third place with a weak box office take of just $5 million. The film made under $2 million per theater. The Cold Light of Day had an even worse opening. It made only $1.8 million in 1,511 theaters for an average of just $1,191 per theater. You can see the complete box office report here.
EW reports that this was the worst weekend for ticket sales since September 21-23, 2012.
