Posted on June 8, 2015
Matt Damon is lost in space...again. But this time, he's no villain. He's the hero in the the film The Martian which is based on the novel by Andy Weir.
Damon plays Mark Watney, an astronaut and botanist who is part of a NASA mission to Mars that was supposed to last for one month. A terrible storm hit Mars just as he is landing for the mission, causing the crew to abort the mission. They believe Watney is dead, but by a miracle he survives the storm.
Now he's stuck on Mars alone with only enough food and shelter to last one month. On the other hand, he is a top botanist. So he decides to get creative and use his scientific training to somehow get a message to Earth that he is alive, and grow enough food to keep him alive in the meantime. He eventually gets a message through, and his crew is determined to rescue him although the powers that be veto the mission as being hopeless and too dangerous.
The crew members that left Watney behind now determine to risk everything to rescue him. The film co-stars Sean Bean, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig and Donald Glover. Directed by Ridley Scott from a script by Drew Goddard, the film is set for release on November 25, 2015. Take a look:
