Posted on October 11, 2015
The Martian topped the box office for the second consecutive weekend. It made another $37 million to bring its total gross to $108 million after two weekends in theaters. The Martian fell just 32% from its opening weekend.
The Martian was followed by Hotel Transylvania 2. The animated film had a strong third weekend in theaters adding $20 million to bring its total gross to $116 million. Hotel Transylvania 2 was followed by Pan, which had a weak opening. The star-studded film made just $15.5 million in 3,515 theaters for a low $4,418 per theater average. Pan has a B+ CinemaScore but critics did not give the film good reviews. It scored only 23% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Pan was followed by The Intern, Sicario, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, The Walk, Black Mass, Everest and The Visit. The Steve Jobs movie, Steve Jobs, had a very strong limited release opening. It made $521,000 in just four theaters. This bodes well for the films wide release. The film stars Michael Fassbender as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
