The Lion King Tops Box Office With $191 Million Opening

The Lion King had a monster $191 million opening to easily top the box office this weekend. The big debut from Disney set a July weekend opening record. It was over $20 million more than the previous biggest of $169.1 million set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2011.
The Lion King has an A Cinemascore. It features the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Beyonce, James Earl Jones, John Oliver, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, John Kani and more.
The Lion King was followed by Spider-Man: Far From Home, which added $21 million to bring its domestic gross to $319 million after three weekends in theaters. Toy Story finished in third and added $15 million to bring its total to $376 million after five weekend.
Toy Story 4 was followed by Crawl, Yesterday, Stuber and Aladdin. The Lion King was the only new wide release this weekend.
Marvel's Avengers: Endgame became the biggest global box office earner of all-time this weekend - the film's 13th weekend in theaters. Endgame has now made over $2.79 billion worldwide to move past Avatar on the all time box office list. You can find the list on boxofficemojo.com.
