The Fault in Our Stars Wins Weekend Box Office

The Fault in Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, won the weekend box office with a surprisingly strong $48 million opening. The film had an average of $15,191 per theater. Deadline reports that young females were 82% of the audience for the movie based on the John Green novel.
Maleficent finished second and made $33.3 million during its second weekend in theaters to bring its domestic gross to $127 million after two weekends. Edge of Tomorrow, a science fiction thriller starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, opened in third and made $29.1 million. Edge of Tomorrow has been stronger overseas where Deadline reports it has already made $82 million in 63 markets.
Edge of Tomorrow was followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past which finished fourth and made $14.7 million during its fourth weekend in theaters. It will easily pass the $200 million. X-Men was followed by A Million Ways to Die in the West, Godzilla, Neighbors, Blended, Chef and Million Dollar Arm. You can see the complete box office report here.
