MTV's The Electric Barbarellas Debuts
Posted on May 7, 2011
The Electric Barbarellas is an MTV show about the formation of an all-girl pop band. The "reality" show follows the struggles of the girls - each with "big personalities" - as they try to make it in the music world. The "Barbarella" name comes from a campy film that starred Jane Fonda, but none of these Electric Barbarellas come close to matching Jane Fonda's look and beauty in the 1968 film.
An article in The Daily Beast says there was a disagreement over the show between Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone and Judy McGrath, the former chairman-CEO of MTV Networks. The Daily Beast says Redstone forced MTV to produce it.
In the opening episode things go bad for the group when they hire a photographer from Craigslist.
