The Conjuring Wins Weekend Box Office

The Conjuring, starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, won the box office this weekend. The low budget horror film made $41.5 million over the weekend and defeated new arrivals, including Turbo and R.I.P.D.. Despicable Me 2 slipped to second after winning the box office the past two weekends. Despicable Me 2 has already made $276 million in theaters so far. Despicable Me 2 was followed by Turbo, an animated film about a snail that dreams of racing. Turbo underperformed and made $21.5 million.
Turbo was followed by Grown Ups 2, which made $20 million. The Red 2 spy thriller opened in fifth and made $18.5 million. Pacific Rim finished 6th and made $16 million during its second weekend in theaters. R.I.P.D. opened in 7th and made only $12.7 million. The thriller about the undead police officers stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges.
