Straight Outta Compton Tops Box Office With $56 Million Opening

Straight Outta Compton dominated the box office this weekend. It made its bigger than expected $56 million in 2,757 theaters for a high $20,348 per theater average. The film follows the rise and fall of the rap group N.W.A. The film has an A CinemaScore.

Straight Outta Compton was followed by Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation which made $17 million in its third weekend to bring its total gross to $138 million after three weekend. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. opened in third. It had a low $13.5 million opening. The film starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer had good reviews and a B CinemaScore. Audiences gave it a 81% score according to Rotten Tomatoes.

U.N.C.L.E. was followed by Fantastic Four which continues to struggle and made just $8 million during its second weekend in theaters. The film fell 69% from its weak opening weekend. Fantastic Four was followed The Gift (2015), Ant-Man, Vacation and Minions.
