Star Wars: The Force Awakens Dominates Holiday Box Office

p class="first">Star Wars: The Force Awakens added another $153 million this weekend to dominate the box office and bring its total domestic gross to $544 million. It is already in fifth place on the list of all time top domestic grossing films. Avatar is the top film on the list. It made $760 million in 2009.Star Wars was not the only film that had a good weekend. It was followed by Daddy's Home, which had a $38.7 million opening weekend. The comedy stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Joy starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro followed Daddy's Home and made $17 million. Daddy's Home and Joy both have a B+ CinemaScore.
Joy was followed by Sisters, Alvin and the Chipmunks The Road Chip and The Big Short. Concussion starring Will Smith opened in 7th place and made $10.5 million. The Point Break remake opened in 8th and made $9.8 million. Concussion has an A CinemaScore and Point Break has a B.
Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight had a strong opening in its limited release. It made $4.6 million in just 100 theaters. The stars of the film include Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
