Asa Butterfield is a Teen Born on Mars in The Space Between Us Trailer
Posted on May 25, 2016
Asa Butterfield stars in the first trailer for The Space Between Us a young adult romance tale with an sf background. NASA sends a group of astronauts to be the first humans to start a colony on Mars. Somehow one of the female astronauts pregnancy has been missed by all the NASA doctors and she ends up delivering on the Red Planet. She dies in childbirth and the boy grows up on Mars.
NASA is horrified by the tragic events and keeps the boy's existence secret from the world. But he grows into a teenager and discovers the Internet where he meets a teen from Oklahoma. He manages to get to Earth to meet her, but his heart, bones and organs are too fragile to survive on Earth.
He manages to escape the NASA scientists who run endless tests on him and finds his true love. He has a wonderful time, until his body is ready to give out. The trailer gives all that away, but we don't actually find out if he lives, dies or gets sent back to Mars. Maybe his new girlfriend will go to Mars with him. She does keep talking about how she wants to get out of boring Tulsa. Or maybe the scientists can fix his heart. Or maybe he can just live in orbit somewhere and come to Earth for visits.
In any event, Asa is a likable protagonist, so we hope they find some solution for his unique problem. The film also stars Britt Robertson, Carla Gugino, Gary Oldman, BD Wong and Janet Montgomery. The film hits theaters August 19, 2016. Take a look:
