Sony Wants More Paul Blart
Posted on January 30, 2009
The surprising success of Paul Blart: Mall Cop has Sony hoping for a sequel to capture yet more Mall Cop box office magic. An L.A. Times article says Happy Madison Productions - a film company founded by Adam Sandler - rarely does sequels but they might make an exception for Paul Blart.
Sony's Doug Belgard says, "Happy Madison historically has been very reluctant to do sequels. But we believe there is an opportunity to make another Paul Blart movie."
Paul Blart won its opening weekend and top the box office again during its second weekend in theaters. The film has already brought in nearly $70 million.
Update 7-25-14: Here is an update about the status of the Paul Blart sequel, which is finally going to happen. Making this sequel was an absolute no brainer given the popularity of the first film. Blart attends a Security Guard Expo in the sequel where he encounters a group of dangerous art thieves. The film, directed by Andy Fickman, is slated to arrive in theaters on April 17, 2015.
