Posted on December 11, 2015
Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for The Legend of Tarzan which stars Alexander Skarsgard as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke/Tarzan, Margot Robbie as Jane Porter and Christoph Waltz as Captain Leon Rom. The film begins with Tarzan firmly ensconced in his life in England as Lord Greystoke and his origins are shown in flashback.
In England it has been years since he has been in Africa. He agrees to travel to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary. But the evil Captain Rom has other plans and kidnaps Jane to make Tarzan do his bidding. The Belgians are the baddies in this version of the story.
The cast is packed with Oscar nominees and winners, including Samuel L. Jackson as George Washington Williams, Djimon Hounsou as Chief M'bonga, John Hurt as and Jim Broadbent and Casper Crump. The film was directed by David Yates (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 and 2 and is based on the original books by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
The trailer gives us glimpses of Lord Greystoke at his British estate, the African jungle, baby John being adopted by the great ape Kala, and Captain Rom up to no good. One jarring note is Margot Robbie's American accent: her natural Australian accent keeps poking through. The film is scheduled for release on July 1, 2016. Take a look:
