Scarlett Johansson is Kaa the Python in First Jungle Book Trailer

Posted on September 18, 2015

The first trailer for Jon Favreau's live action remake of The Jungle Book is out and it's a marvel. Ten-year-old Neel Sethi plays Mowgli -- everything is cgi. We see Mowgli's life in the jungle which is full of beautiful flora and very dangerous animals.

Scarlett Johansson does a hypnotic voiceover as Kaa, the giant python. She speaks to little Mowgli as he leaps from one danger to the next in the jungle. She croons, "What are you doing so deep in the jungle? Don't you know what you are? I know what you are. I know where you came from. Poor sweet little cub. I'll keep you clossssse. let go of your fear now. And trussst in me..."

The voice cast for the animals is amazing. Bill Murray is Baloo the bear, Ben Kingsley is Bagheera the panther, Idris Elba is the tiger Shere Khan, Lupita Nyong'o is wolf mother Raksha, Giancarlo Esposito is wolf father Akela and Christopher Walken is King Louie the orangutan.

The film is based on the book by Rudyard Kipling about a boy who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungles of the subcontinent. Many people grew up with Disney's animated version of the tale which was released in 1967. Director Jon Favreau said that he wanted to have touches of that film to show up, but that the tone of the live action version will be quite different. At the end of the trailer you can see Favreau's recreation of the classic animated scene of Mowgli riding on Baloo's tummy as they float down a river and sing "Bare Necessities."

The trailer is visually stunning. We can't wait to see the full length version. The film hits theaters on April 15, 2016. Take a look:
