San Andreas Wins Weekend Box Office

The disaster movie San Andreas won the box office this weekend. The film starring Dwayne Johnson opened with $53.2 million. The film also had a strong opening overseas where it made $60 million. Deadline reports that San Andreas was the top film in 55 countries.
San Andreas was followed by Pitch Perfect which made $14.3 million during its third weekend in theaters. It is already very close to the $150 million mark after just three weekends. Pitch Perfect was followed by Tomorrowland which made $13.8 million.
Mad Max: Fury Road finished fourth and made $13.6 million during its third weekend in theaters. It was followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron which added $10.0 million during its fifth weekend in theaters. Avengers was followed by Aloha, which opened in fifth and made $10 million. Aloha is a romantic comedy starring Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams.
Aloha was followed by Poltergeist, Far from the Madding Crowd and Hot Pursuit. You can find the box office chart for the weekend here. Entourage, Spy and Insidious: Chapter 3 arrive in this theaters this coming weekend. If neither of these films has a strong opening then it is possible San Andreas could hold on to the top spot next weekend. The film did have a good A- CinemaScore.
