Angelina Jolie is in Disguise as CIA Officer in Salt

Principal photography starts this week on the espionage thriller Salt, starring Angelina Jolie. The film was originally titled Edwin A. Salt and was supposed to star Tom Cruise. When Cruise dropped out and Angelina signed on, the part was re-written for a woman.

The film is being directed by Phillip Noyce (The Bone Collector, Clear and Present Danger). The original screenplay was written by Kurt Wimmer (The Recruit, The Thomas Crown Affair), and the rewrites were done by Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, Man On Fire).

Angie stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who swore an oath to duty, honor, and country. When she is accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy, Evelyn goes on the run to clear her name and protect her husband. Liev Schreiber stars as Winter, Evelyn's boss and friend on the Russian desk at the CIA.

In on-set photos released by Columbia Pictures, we see two of Evelyn's many disguises. She's a blond in one and a brunette in another. We can't decide which one we like better. She looks fab in both. This movie sounds awesome: like a cross between Alias -- one of our fave shows ever -- and Dollhouse in the sense that she's able to be many different women. Although she doesn't have her memory wiped after every mission like poor Echo does.

Phillip Noyce sounds quite happy to be working with Angie, saying: "It's great to be working with Angelina once again. She's the only one who could bring this character to life. Salt will be tense and exciting, everything that thriller audiences expect, but also with a strong, multi-dimensional character at the center."

Update: The new trailer for the spy thriller Salt has just been released and it looks great. There's plenty of action.

The second Salt movie poster has also been released. The poster asks Who is Salt? and shows star Angelina Jolie holding a gun. Quite a few writers are asking what happened to Angelina Jolie's face? It looks like bad photoshopping. Maybe they were trying to make it look like she is part of a video game. She looks almost like a Grand Theft Auto character. She looked much better in the photos of her disguise that were previously release.

Of course, we are still seeing this movie no matter what the posters look like.
