Russell and Britney Deliver the Ratings For MTV
Posted on September 9, 2008
The VMAs were a big ratings success. Broadcasting & Cable reports that the VMAs delivered a 7.4 rating in the 18-34 demographic, which is a 15% jump over last year and a 41% jump over 2006.The awards show reached a total of 23 million viewers.
Last year's show was a bore compared to this year. This one was much better produced, with tighter writing. Russell Brand is now considered the goods: he delivered the ratings and some controversy, which just makes network execs giddy with happiness. And as for Britney, it's clear that she was the main reason people tuned in. We like Britney and Russell together -- their promos were hilarious. She didn't seem to know how to handle him, which just made it all the funnier.
