Rihanna, Kanye and Paul McCartney Get Bluesy in FourFiveSeconds
Posted on February 3, 2015
Rihanna shows off a new sound and a new look in the video for the first single off her new album Home. The song is "FourFiveSeconds" and is performed by Rihanna, Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney.
Directed by Dutch photographers duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin the video is in black and white. It features a stripped down, minimalist feel with Rihanna singing lead. Kanye sings, but does not rap and McCartney plays the guitar.
The song, which was co-written by West, McCartney and several other songwriters, has a bluesy, country and western infused pop sound which showcases Rihanna's raspy, attractive voice. She's never sounded so at ease with her music which usually has a much more produced -- some might say overproduced -- slick sound.
The look of the video was all Kanye's idea. In a behind the scenes video from the shoot Rihanna said the fashion choices were very important to the look of the video. Rihanna said, "Kanye came up with the idea of doing just some real street denim -- all American type look."
Kanye says that Rihanna is wearing his jacket that is some Sean John throwback Vintage. Rihanna is in love with the jacket, which she wears with nothing under it save her tattoos. She belted the jacket and paired it with some boyfriend jeans. Rihanna says the jacket "is "f**king major!" She explains, "Denim never goes out of style: it's classic, it's iconic just like the F**king Beatles!" We're thinking Kanye is never going to see that jacket again.
Rihanna wore very little makeup for the shoot and wore her hair slicked back. She looks fantastic. Rihanna says she will debut the new single live on the 57th annual Grammy Awards this Sunday on February 8th. Kanye and Sir Paul are scheduled to perform with her.
