Meryl Streep and Rick Springfield Rock Out in Ricki and the Flash Trailer

Posted on May 7, 2015

Our minds are totally blown by the first trailer for Ricki And The Flash. Meryl Streep stars Ricki, as an aging rocker (!) who left her family behind for dreams of stardom. She makes a living as a musician, mostly playing smaller gigs. Rick Springfield play Greg, a guitarist in the band who's always been crazy for her.

One day she gets a call from her ex-husband (Kevin Kline). He tells her that their daughter (played by Meryl's real life daughter Mamie Gummer) is depressed because her husband just walked out on her for another woman. Ricki packs up her guitar and her hair braids and heads to see her family. Broadway star Audra McDonald plays her husband's new wife, who stepped in for Ricki after she left.

Ricki's kids are resentful towards her for leaving them and her son Joshua (Sebastian Stan) doesn't even want her at his upcoming wedding. Ricki seems determined to make up for lost time and tries to intervene in her kids' lives. Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) directed the film from a script by Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno).

Meryl can do anything and we're totally buying her as the aging rocker who put her career before her kids. Pairing her with Rick Springfield was a crazy but brilliant bit of casting. He's certainly got the musical chops, he's a good actor and he can rock the guyliner. Mamie Gummer seems to have some great scenes with her mom, and Kevin Kline is always amazing.

Meryl never ceases to amaze. Take a look:
