A Quiet Place Part II Tops Memorial Day Box Office
Posted on June 1, 2021
A Quiet Place Part II dominated the box office over Memorial Day. The film made $47 million over the weekend and over $57 for the long weekend.
The horror sequel was written and directed by John Krasinski and stars his wife Emily Blunt. It features frightening fast creatures that hunt by sound.
A Quiet Place Part II wasn't the only film to do well this weekend. Disney's Cruella starring Emma Stone also had a $21.3 million opening and a $26.5 million take for the Memorial Day holiday period.
The opening is being called a pandemic box office record by NBC and other media outlets. The large weekend box office is a strong signal that moviegoers are ready to put the pandemic behind them. It could bode well for upcoming summer releases.
Spiral finished third with a take of $2.2 million. It was followed by Wrath of Man, Raya and the Last Dragon and Godzilla vs. Kong.
You can view the box office chart for the weekend at boxofficemojo.com. In the Heights, Peter Rabbit 2 and Queen Bees are among the films opening this coming weekend. We suspect A Quiet Place will defeat them and top the box office for a second weekend.
