America's most famous film critic, Roger Ebert, died to day at the age of 70. Ebert battled thyroid and salivary cancer for years. He announced this week that the cancer had spread. He blogged that he was taking "a leave of presence" but was still going to write movie reviews, just less frequently. Ebert won the Pulitzer Prize for his work: he was the first film critic to do so. Ebert lost the ability to speak, eat or drink due to surgery on his jaw for cancer, but he never stopped writing and interacting with his many fans on Twitter. He is survived by his wife.
