Problems Getting Everyone Back for Another Trip to the Center of the Earth

Posted on April 28, 2010

The first Journey to the Center of The Earth starring Brendan Fraser was very good, so it is no surprise a sequel is being planned. Unfortunately, there are problems according to Deadline.com.

New Line wants to hurry up and shoot the film, but Brendan Fraser wants to wait for Eric Brevig, the director of the first film, to be available to direct the sequel.

Fraser wants to be loyal to Brevig and is resisting New Line's suggestion of filmmakers like Brad Peyton. New Line's alternative would be re-fashion the film around Josh Hutcherson, who played Fraser's character's son in the original film. Such a move would save an eight-figure star salary, but it is a major risk to go without a star to return to a film that grossed $242 million worldwide.
We don't think this sequel will work without Fraser. New Line needs to wait for Brevig.
