The Stunts are the Stars in the Trailer for the Point Break Remake

Posted on May 28, 2015

The Point Break remake is here and it's definitely got a different vibe from the original. The 1991 film starred Keanu Reeves as Johnny Utah, a former champion athlete who blew out his knee and became an FBI agent.

Utah is sent undercover to infiltrate The Dead Presidents, a group of Southern California dudes who robbed banks when they weren't surfing the waves and looking for the ultimate adrenaline rush. Patrick Swayze played Bodhi, the charismatic Zen-preaching leader of the group. Utah gets sucked in to Bodhi's world and he must choose between the FBI and his new friends.

The film was a huge financial success. It was directed by Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). The remake stars relative unknowns -- it looks like they spent their money on the stunts. This time around Johnny Utah is played by Australian soap opera actor Luke Bracey. Bodhi is played by Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez. The film was directed by cinematographer Ericson Core, who worked on the first Fast and Furious film. Ray Winstone is the most recognizable name in the cast, and his character is no fan of the criminals or their love for violence and sports.

This time the gang is a lot more violent. They "don't care how many people get killed" during their crime sprees. They aim to disrupt the economy, which is a much bigger goal than robbing a few banks. Sadly, they seem to have left their Ronald Reagan masks at home. On the bright side, the stunts look incredible. The gang is made up of extreme sports enthusiasts. When they get bored of surfing the big waves or jumping out of planes they head off for some wingsuit BASE jumping, mountain climbing and robbing people using automatic weapons. Take a look:
