PETA Concerned Over Giraffe Incident in Trailer for The Hangover 3

The end of the trilogy is in sight: the official trailer for Hangover 3 was released today. Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms return for another trip to Las Vegas. Heather Graham returns and John Goodman joins the cast, reportedly as a villain. Melissa McCarthy also makes an appearance.

Director Todd Phillips has been a frequent target of PETA for his use of a capuchin monkey in the last film which walked the red carpet for the premiere. This latest trailer seems aimed directly at PETA. Zach's character is driving down a highway with a giraffe being towed in an open trailer. They go under a low underpass and, well, it doesn't look good. Take a look:

Gothamist ttook one look at the trailer and contacted PETA, which sent this response:

"PETA is hopeful that the giraffe used in the film is 100 percent computer-generated instead of a live animal, and we are in touch with Warner Bros. now. The technology is readily available, and although Todd Phillips has used wild animals in his movies before, we're hopeful that's not the case this time around. Giraffes are extremely delicate creatures who are easily stressed. A giraffe used in Zookeeper died during production."

Obviously, the stunt itself did not use a real giraffe. But we agree with Peta here and hope the giraffe never actually left his home. Perhaps he was just coached to stand in a trailer for a bit while they scanned him, then the animators did the rest.
