Oz Wins Weekend With $80 Million Opening

Disney's Oz The Great and Powerful won the box office this weekend with an $80 million take. Deadline says this is the third biggest March debut. The film also added $69.9 million overseas. Disney already has Mitchell Kapner writing a sequel according to Variety.
Oz was followed by Jack the Giant Slayer, which made just $10 million after winning the box office last weekend. Identity Thief came in third and made $6.3 million, bringing its gross to $116 million. Dead Man Down, a thriller with Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace, managed just over $5 million in its opening weekend. Dead Man Down was followed by Snitch, 21 and Over and Safe Haven.
Silver Linings Playbook continues to remain in the top ten following its successful awards season, particularly for Jennifer Lawrence. The made another $3.75 million during its seventeenth week in theaters. It has now made over $120 million.
