Oz Wins Box Office for Second Consecutive Weekend
Posted on March 18, 2013
Oz The Great and Powerful held on to the number one spot at the box office this weekend. It followed up its $80 million opening with a strong $42.2 million second weekend in theaters. The Call, a thriller with Halle Berry playing a 911 operator, performed better than expected and made over $17 million, at $6,821 per theater.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone did not perform well. The magician comedy, starring Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey, made just over $10 million with a theater average of $3,261. Perhaps, moviegoers were not up for a comedy this weekend.
Burt Wonderstone was followed by Jack the Giant Slayer, Identity Thief, Snitch and 21 and Over. Silver Linings Playbook continued its long run by adding another $2.5 million and took the 8th spot during its 18th weekend in theaters.
