Ouija Wins Weekend Box Office
Posted on October 26, 2014
Ouija won the box office this weekend. The horror film made $20 million. In the movie, a group of friends inadvertently awaken an evil spirit when using a ouija board. The film stars Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto and Daren Kagasoff. This was the last weekend before Halloween so it seems appropriate for a horror film to win.
Ouija was followed by John Wick, a revenge thriller starring Keanu Reeves. It opened modestly with a take of $14.1 million. John Wick was followed by Fury, starring Brad Pitt, which made $13 million during its second weekend in theaters.
Gone Girl continues to have surprising staying power. It made another $11.1 million during its 4th weekend in theaters and fell just 36.6% from the previous week. The movie has now made $124 million after four weekends. Gone Girl was followed by the animated film, The Book of Life, which made $9.8 million during its second weekend in theaters.
St. Vincent, which stars Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy, soared as it expanded into wide release. It made $8 million in 2,282 theaters. This was its third weekend in theaters but it was in limited release during its first two weekends.
St. Vincent was followed by Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, The Best of Me, The Judge and Dracula Untold. You can see the complete box office report for the weekend here.
