Nickelodeon to Launch Bubble Guppies
Posted on May 16, 2007
Nickelodeon is debuting a new animated kids show in 2008 called Bubble Guppies. The show will be targeted at preschoolers. It is set in a CGI-animated underwater classroom attended by a group of mermaid kids. The classroom is headed by a fish named Mr. Grouper.
The people who created the new series are the same people behind the popular series, The Backyardigans. Some of the first episodes will cover kelp forests, coral reefs and undersea gardens.
There are other animated cartoon shows aimed at tots like Scholastic's The Wonder Pets. Nickelodeon already has a massive animated hit in SpongeBob SquarePants. SpongeBob has over 60 million+ monthly viewers. Nickelodeon is probably hoping for a similar hit at the young preschool level with Bubble Guppies.
