Disney is planning to unleash numerous Star Wars films after acquiring Lucasfilm. Comingsoon.ent reports that Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that they plan to launch a new Star Wars film every year starting in 2015. The films will alternate between episode films from the trilogy and standalone films. The standalone films are expected to focus on a single character. How long they continue to make new Star Wars films every single year probably depends on box office and disc sales.
J.J. Abrams is directing the first film, Star Wars: Episode VII, which arrives in theaters in summer 2015. Rolling Stone reports that Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill had all signed on for a new film before the sale to Lucasflim.
