New Line Cinema May Make Category Six Disaster Film

Posted on October 28, 2011

New Line Cinema reports that New Line Cinema closed a spec deal for a script called Category Six. You might expect this film to be a about a monster hurricane with that title. The Saffir-Simpson scale uses categories, but only goes as high as five. Tornado strength is measured by the Enhanced Fujita Scale which goes from EFO to EF5.

The script New Line picked up is apparently about a tornado, so the title does not make a lot of sense. Deadline says the script, by John Swetnam, tells the story of high school students who survive a terrible tornado through "found footage" from video cameras and cell phones.
