Mr. Peabody & Sherman won the weekend box office with a $21.2 million take during its second weekend in theaters. It was followed closely by 300: Rise of An Empire. The 300 sequel added $19 million during its second week in theaters.
Need for Speed debuted in third and made $17.8 million. It was a decent opening for the game based on the video game franchise. However, it likely wasn't nearly enough to spawn a sequel. Need for Speed was followed by Non-Stop, which made $10 million during its third weekend in theaters. Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club, which opened in fifth and made $8.3 million.
The Lego Movie opened in sixth place and made $7.7 million to bring its total domestic gross to $236 million. Frozen finished 9th and continues to close in on $400 million. It is now less than $4 million from the $400 million mark.
The other opening film this weekend was the Veronica Mars movie. It did well and made over $2 million in just 291 theaters. The film also debuted simultaneously on video on demand.
