Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemons Star in First Trailer for Other People

Jesse Plemons and Molly Shannon star in the first trailer for the dramedy Other People. The film was written and directed by former Saturday Night Live and Funny or Die writer Chris Kelly who based it on his own life. Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) plays a gay comedy writer who moves back home with his parents to help while his mother is fighting cancer. Molly Shannon plays his mother. His father will not accept that his son is gay and everyone else is having trouble accepting that his mom is dying.
Jesse talked about the film in an interview with Indiewire. He discussed how he turned his personal tragedy into a comedy/drama years later and the point of view of the film. He explained, "You're seeing the movie through the eyes of a comedy writer and as someone who 'escaped' a small town to New York City, [who has] the tendency to see other people as jokes or punchlines. The quirky aunt, the woman who called at the wrong time, the grandparents who are funny…" He says the lead character has a kind of selfishness about him, in that he can't believe that all this stuff is actually happening to him.
Bradley Whitford, Maude Apatow, Zach Woods, and June Squibb co-star. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to excellent reviews. The film hits theaters on September 9, 2016. Take a look:
