Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation Tops Fantastic Four to Win Box Office

Posted on August 10, 2015

Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation won the box office this weekend. It made $29.4 million during its second weekend in theaters. The action thriller starring Tom Cruise has now made $109 million after two weekends. The $29.4 million was enough to put it past Fantastic Four, which opened in second place.

Fantastic Four only made $26.2 million. The modest opening for the rebooted film would probably normally mean there would be no sequel but reports say Fox has already committed to a second film. The film is also considered the worst reviewed Marvel movie. It has an abysmal 9% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It also has an awful C- CinemaScore.

Fantastic Four was followed by The Gift, a psychological thriller starring Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall and Joel Edgerton. It made $12 million in 1,648 theaters for a better per theater average than Fantastic Four. It has a B CinemaScore.

The Gift was followed by Vacation, Ant-Man and Minions. Minions has now crossed the $300 million mark after 5 weeks in theaters. Ricki and the Flash, starring Meryl Streep, opened in seventh and made $7 million. It was followed by Trainwreck, Pixels and Southpaw. Another new film opening this weekend was Shaun the Sheep. It had a weak opening of just $4 million despite appearing in over 2,300 theaters.
