Watch the Minions Destroy Villains Through History in First Trailer

Posted on November 6, 2014

Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 introduced audiences to the Minions, the tiny yellow creatures who served villain Gru (Steve Carell), who later became a force for good. Now the Minions have their own spinoff movie and it looks hilarious.

In this first trailer from Universal Pictures we get a look at the history of the Minions. They began as single cell organisms who migrated out of the ocean and onto the land. They always look to serve the biggest villain of the day, so they immediately fall in line when a grumpy T-Rex shows up. Alas, the Minions are good at finding an evil overlord, they just aren't very good at keeping one. Their bungling leads to the demise of the unfortunate T-Rex, leaving the Minions leaderless.

Throughout history they have found their leader, only to accidentally destroy his plans. From ancient Egypt to Napoleon's France, the Minions were there. When the lost another leader, they fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin will not give up. He leads STuart and Bob on a journey to find a new evil master.

Eventually they land in New York Harbor during the swinging 60s. This is where the trailer ends. But the story is just beginning. There they meet the world's first female super-villain Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock). She and her mad inventor husband Herb (Jon Hamm) have plenty of villainy on their minds.

The Minions make their way to a convention of villains where they do their best to have Scarlet hire them. Chris Renaud voices many of the minions. Other stars that have lent their voices for the film include Michael Keaton, Steve Carell (Gru), Hiroyuki Sandad (Sumo Villain), Jennifer Saunders (Queen Elizabeth II), Allison Janney, Steve Coogan and Dave Rosenbaum (Fabrice).

The film hits theaters on July 10, 2015. Take a look:
