Melissa Benoist, Khandi Alexander and Jake Picking Join Patriots Day Cast

CBS Films and Lionsgate have announced three new cast members for the upcoming film, Patriots Day. The movie chronicles the events surrounding the horrific 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The newly announced cast members are Melissa Benoist, Khandi Alexander and Jake Picking.

Melissa Benoist (Supergirl, Whiplash) will be play Katherine Russell, the widow of Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Alexander (Scandal, Treme) is playing a law enforcement interrogator and Picking (Goat, The Way Way Back) is playing MIT Police Officer Sean Collier. The film directed by Peter Berg also stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Bacon, Michael Beach, Vincent Curtalo, Alex Wolff, Themo Melikidze, Rachel Brosnahan and Christopher O'Shea. It is being produced by Scott Stuber, Mark Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky.

It has not been very long since the bombing for a movie to be made. The Wikipedia listing for the film says the filmmakers have been blocked from filming in certain locations. The film is currently in production. It is set to open in Boston, New York and Los Angeles on December 21, 2016. It will go to a wide release on January 13, 2017.
