Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials Tops Weekend Box Office

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is this weekend's box office winner. The film made $30 million with a strong $7,993 per theater average. This is slightly less than the first film's opening weekend of $32.5 million in 2014, but it was still a strong debut for the second film in the trilogy. The Scorch Trials has a B CinemaScore.
The Scorch Trials finished $7 million ahead of Black Mass, which opened in second. Black Mass is a thriller about Boston gangster Whitey Bulger starring Johnny Depp. Black Mass made $23.4 million. It has a B CinemaScore.
Black Mass was followed by The Visit, which fell 55% and made $11.3 million during its second weekend in theaters. The Perfect Guy plunged 62.8% and made $9.6 million during its second weekend. The Perfect Guy was followed by War Room, A Walk in the Woods, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Straight Outta Compton.
The other opening film this weekend, Captive, had a weak opening weekend of just $1.4 million and a low $1,737 per theater average. The crime thriller stars David Oyelowo and Kate Mara.
Next weekend's opening films include Hotel Transylvania 2, The Intern, Sicario and The Green Inferno./p>
