Madagascar 3, Prometheus Top Weekend Box Office

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Prometheus both drew in hordes of moviegoers over the weekend. Madagascar 3, which had great reviews, brought in the family crowd and made over $60 million to win the weekend. Ridley Scott's Prometheus, which was also well reviewed, made over $50 million and came in second. This was especially strong for an R-rated film. Box Office Mojo says this was the 10th best opening ever for an R-rated film.
Prometheus was followed by Snow White and the Huntsman, which made $23 million and is just shy of $100 million domestic after its second weekend in theaters. MIB 3 can in fourth and made $13 million during its 3rd weekend in theaters. The Avengers finished fifth and made another $11 million during its sixth weekend in theaters.
