Kong: Skull Island Wins Weekend Box Office with $61 Million Opening

Kong: Skull Island won the box office this weekend with a $61 million opening. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly and John Goodman. It has a B+ CinemaScore. It was the only new wide release this weekend.
Logan fell to second place after its big opening last weekend. It made another $37.8 million and has now amassed $152 million. The Get Out horror film continues to thrive. It fell just 25.4% from the previous weekend. Get Out has now made $111 million after 3 weekends in theaters.
Get Out was followed by The Shack and The Lego Batman Movie. Lego Batman added $7.8 million and has now made $159 million after five weekends in theaters. It is the top grossing film so far this year but will likely be passed by Logan after next weekend.
Lego Batman was followed by Before I Fall, Hidden Figures, John Wick: Chapter Two and La La Land. You can find the box office chart here on Box Office Mojo. Beauty and the Beast will open this coming weekend. The film starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens is expected to dominated the weekend box office.
