Jurassic World Has Monster $204.6 Million Opening
Posted on June 14, 2015
Jurassic World is an enormous hit. The film opened with $204.6 million. This is the second biggest domestic opening in history. The Avengers made $207.4 million in 2012. The dinosaur thriller stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
With that huge opening and its A CinemaScore, Jurassic World will likely to continue to draw moviegoers in droves in the weeks ahead. It will cause problems for other June releases as it devours the box office. Deadline says Jurassic World's numbers could go higher still when the final numbers are reported on Monday.
Jurassic World was followed by last weekend's winner Spy, which added $16 million during its second weekend in theaters. The hit spy comedy stars Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Jude Law and Rose Byrne.
Spy was followed by San Andreas, which made $11 million during its third weekend in theaters. It has now made $119 million after three weekends. San Andreas was followed by Insidious Chapter 3, Pitch Perfect 2 and Entourage.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is the top money maker in the U.S. so far this year. It has made $444 million and counting. Furious 7 has made $350 million after 11 weekends in theaters but it is starting to fade. It made $560,000 this weekend. Jurassic World has a good shot at passing both these films with its huge start.
